Gabled Cedar Pavilion with Stone Fireplace

The brief was a room, not a roof. We set a freestanding gabled pavilion toward the back of the property, framed in rough sawn cedar with exposed trusses and a stained tongue and groove ceiling, then wrapped the columns and the chimney in stacked stone so the structure has real weight from every angle. Recessed cans in the ceiling and grazing lights at the base of each column do the work after dark.

A full masonry fireplace anchors one gable end and a stone bar with a poured cap runs along the open side, which gives the space a place to gather and a place to serve without the two crossing. The decking is stamped in an ashlar slate pattern with color worked into the texture and carried past the pavilion to a round stone fire pit, so the whole area reads as one floor rather than a covered patio with a separate feature parked next to it.
